LICHEN

photographic diptychs, 30 x 40 cm, 2011

Performance of Alectoria sarmentosa Lichen when swirled 970° with 70 mph

Lichens are living organisms that serve as bio-indicators by being first-responders to nature's environmental changes. They can be used to measure air pollution such as sulfur dioxide as well as to measure toxic elemental pollutants and radioactive metals. The lichens of this experiment have been taken from a forest close to Eurajoki in Finland.
