THE SURFACE OF DISPLACEMENT

object, 4,5 x 6,7 m, 2012

A module about territorial shifts

This trans-spatial object, specifically designed and produced for the Loris gallery in Berlin, refers to the Icelandic Kárahnjúkar dam—a major current project for energy production. The heavy module is wedged into the gallery space. Relating in form and content to the dam itself, the object raises topographic questions of measurement and displacement while controversial economic and environmental decisions are in turn shaped as a territorial blockade that reduces actionability to a minimum.
